Hotel in Lhasa - Tibet

The conversation below may give you a picture about stay in Monastery – Tibet:

Well, I become more and more addicted to working my travel plans for Tibet. Do you think it is possible to sleep a few nights in Tibet monastery?

I Hope some monks could speak English and welcome visitors perhaps the authorities might encourage suck visits? Thanks.

The chinese authorities do not encourage that if you mean staying at the monastery itself and spending time, eating with the monks etc. But many monasteries have a guesthouse, often very basic, where you can stay for the night. Places like the monasteries at Ganden, Samye, tsurphu, Rongbuk (Everest), Kailash trail comes into mind. The guesthouses are run by the monasteries but are generally dorms and you do not have any contact with the monastery or the monks themselves.

I stayed in a couple, cheap basic accommodation. I didn't encounter any monks who spoke English. Many know Chinese.

Yep....both posts above a accurate. You won't find many monks that speak English and most major monasteries have small "local" guesthouses. They are often very basic and it would be wise to bring your own sleeping bag and a few extra munchies to add to the basic food. You can usually get Thukpa (noodle soup) meat and potatoes and/or perhaps fried rice.

you know, i was thinking if it is possible to get into the atmosphere of the monastery, in terms of being accepted to watch and /or participate to some moments of their everyday life.

i must admit that sleeping facilities wouldn't be very good (but it is not so important in this case)
Be careful, the chinese authorities are watching the monasteries and dont really like the thought of places like that. Dont do anything that jeopardize the monastery and monks.

In general I agree with #5. But the Chinese government isn't everywhere, monasteries are big, monks have their own quarters and some monks are very powerful too. However just because it's possible it doesn't mean the monks would like you around to watch.

#3 Most young monks know some English. They learn it in the monastery. If you write it down and keep it simple, they'll probably understand something.

thank you all very much for your thoughts.
the last thing i would like is to bring problems to the monasteries.
i'll see if i manage to arrange sth in a very cautious way.
i wish the best to all!
